The making of a team

Where we live we consider that cycling is everything-but really, it is so much more than that. With so much at stake on a vintage bicycle ride meticulous preparation is needed. The idea of this team goes back years-back to a time when the thought of a team for the Eroica was considered too revolutionary. At the time we felt that the idea was too far ahead of its time and could not be brought to the public. We determined that ideas such as ours were best appreciated in their absence.

Now that it is 2018 we can wait no longer. The team will come together in the coming weeks  and will be honed like a fine Japanese sword, especially if it were made in Italy.
In consideration of this ambitious course of action the prime ingredients of the final product will be divided into the following categories:

1. The parts, 2. The wheels, 3. The frames, 4. The builders, 5. The riders
This entry concerns the parts-those bits of metal that are the makings of a vintage bicycle, the drive train, brake systems and cockpits. All of these bits are old , some of them even older than the riders on the team. The inventory of cranksets, derailleurs and brakes that have accumulated over a period of decades. Now , all these bits will be given a proper cleaning , maintenance and final inspection....they will finally see the light of day on the central Californian roads. After the aforementioned steps , a final inspection will be done before these pieces are fitted to the bicycles. Many hours of preparation are required before any of these venerable parts are even considered for final assembly. Names like Campagnolo , Mavic, Simplex , Mafac, Universal , Cinelli and others make up the roster of vintage component manufacturers. A number of these parts are highly sought after by collectors for display bikes-period pieces. Our cycles will not be in a gallery- they will be on the road.
